View Evolve’s Profile

Evolve is an artisan producer of organic, natural, vegan and cruelty-free skin, body and hair products that have been handcrafted in small batches in Hertfordshire, England, since launching in 2014. We get the low-down on their superfood ingredients from founder Laura Rudoe.

Can you introduce us to Evolve – what inspired the brand, and what makes you special?

Evolve is an artisan producer of organic and natural skin, body and hair products. Everything we create is hand-crafted using natural and organic oils, butters and natural superfoods sourced from around the world. We aim for the highest possible organic content. We also try to combine science with nature by using some highly effective scientific actives like Hyaluronic Acid.

Your products are all handmade. Why have you decided to do this?

We want to keep the traditional, artisan feel of the products. We like to know exactly what goes in our products and doing everything by hand gives us the ability to do that. We also want to ensure maximum freshness, so we only make in small batches.

How do you balance this lovely artisan quality, which no doubt takes time and small production batches, with ensuring your business remains profitable?

We have a highly efficient team of people in our little Hertfordshire-based studio making products pretty much around the clock!

Can you talk us through some of the key ingredients in your products and how they work to ensure your products are beneficial?

Our hero ingredients :

Hyaluronic Acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water making it a highly effective component in moisturisers. Hyaluronic acid helps to reduce wrinkles, making the skin look younger with an improved skin tone. We use lower molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid, which penetrates deeper and has more effective hydrating properties. It also increases the production of collagen.

Argan Oil is high in vitamin E and fatty acids, giving the skin a youthful glow. It is easily absorbed. Vitamin E and fatty acids are also well known to repair damaged skin and prevent further damage. With powerful antioxidants, argan oil helps to improve elasticity and leaves skin feeling plump and soft.

Pomegranate Extract is high in ellagic acid, which helps to regulate cell turnover and strengthen the cell membrane, therefore limiting water loss and free radical damage.

Rosehip Oil is rich in essential fatty acids omega-6 and omega-3. The oil helps to fight signs of ageing and keeps the skin nourished and hydrated. It is rich in bio-retinol, helps promote cellular renewal and improves the appearance of scars.

Nigella Oil (Black Seed Oil) contains the essential fatty acids that maintain the skins nourishment and hydration. Black seed oil contains antioxidants, as well as vitamin A. It has traditionally been used for centuries to treat atopic skin conditions.

Papaya is an excellent source of vitamin A and Papain. These help to remove dead skin cells, acting as a natural exfoliator.

Goji, the “exotic superfruit” is considered as one of the richest nutritious ingredients and the worlds most powerful anti-ageing natural foods. With its antioxidant properties, it fights off the effect of free radicals. It has moisturising, soothing and detoxifying properties.

Baobab is well known for its amazing benefits on the skin. Various parts of the Baobab tree have been consumed since ancient times for its extremely high concentration of calcium and vitamin C. Baobab oil also contains high levels of protein and vitamin A. The enriching Baobab oil nourishes, improves skin elasticity, helps to rejuvenate new skin cells and promotes healing. Baobab is rich in antioxidants, which protect the skin from free radical damage, and is therefore a great anti-ageing ingredient.

Cocoa Butter, a rich fat derived from the same beans as chocolate, helps protect the fragile skin on the lips. The emollient properties of cocoa butter act as a protective barrier by supplying and retaining moisture in the lips and skin. Cocoa butter also contains antioxidant vitamins A, C and E, which can help slow the signs of ageing.

Shea Butter is a skin superfood that comes from the seeds of the fruit of the Shea (Karite) tree, which is naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F. It provides the skin with essential fatty acids and the nutrients necessary for collagen production. Shea butter has been used in Africa and other countries for years to improve skin and hair condition.

Raw Cacao is high in antioxidants, which help protect the skin and improve hydration and complexion. It is also high in magnesium, vitamin C and the fatty acid Omega 6. These promote cell repair and rejuvenation.

Sweet Almond Oil, rich in vitamins A, E and Bs, has high moisturising, emollient and nourishing properties. It is easily absorbed and leaves skin nourished but not tacky.

Tahitian Manoi, considered the “Sacred Oil of the Polynesians”, is made by maceration of thousands of Tahitian Gardenia blossoms into coconut oil. It has restorative and antioxidant properties and leaves the skin moisturised, soft and supple.
